‘Wizard of Oz’ staged by Valley Youth Theatre closes June 25

Valley Youth Theatre’s summer production of The Wizard of Oz opened Center Stage at the Herberger Friday, June 9 to a packed theater, earning a standing ovation and rave reviews. The production showcases 58 talented young actors — ranging in age from seven to 19 — from all over the Valley, dressed in over 125 original costumes, and performing on the New York City, Madison Square Garden set which was performed on by Mickey Rooney, Eartha Kitt and Jessica Grove. “This is my favorite show,” says Bobb Cooper, VYT’s producing artistic director, in a press release.

Valley Youth Theatre holds dog auditions for ‘Toto’

Valley Youth Theatre is having dog auditions for the role of Toto at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13. This is for its upcoming production of “The Wizard of Oz” which will be presented live at the Herberger Theater Center June 9 thru June 25, according to a press release. A little known, fun fact about this cute role, in VYT’s 2005 production of The Wizard of Oz, Emma Stone’s dog, Jacklynn Marie, was cast as Toto, the press release stated.

Valley Youth Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz opens center stage at the Herberger Theater on June 9, with 60 talented young actors from around the Valley, 125 colorful costumes and a New York City Madison Square Garden set. The musical’s classic songs are brought to life by a live orchestra that accompanies Dorothy and her little dog Toto as they are swept away, by a huge tornado, from her small farm in Kansas, to the magical land of OZ where she meets new and exciting friends, and a few enemies. When her house accidentally lands on the Wicked Witch of the East, everyone is exuberant, except the Wicked Witch of the West who seeks revenge for the death of her sister and wants her ruby slippers.

‘A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail’ receives 5 stars from patrons

Everyone’s favorite “stuffed with fluff” character, Winnie-the-Pooh Bear is on stage at Valley Youth Theatre through Dec. 23 for his 21st production of “A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail.” Patron’s agree this production is a holiday must-see for the whole family, whether it’s a yearly tradition or the first time, according to a press release. This Christmas musical is filled with fun, colorful songs that accompany guests through the snow-covered Hundred Acre Woods sharing the holidays with Tigger, Eeyore, Owl, Kanga, Roo, Piglet and Winnie-the-Pooh.

Young Valley Youth Theatre actors star in ‘The Little Mermaid’

Go under the sea with “Disney’s The Little Mermaid,” presented by Valley Youth Theatre. Ariel and all her sea creature friends are swimming onto Center Stage at the Herberger Theater Center on June 10. “Disney’s The Little Mermaid” is a hauntingly beautiful love story about a magical kingdom beneath the sea, where the young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and Disney’s classic animated film, this production includes music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, according to a press release.
