Phoenix Mercury host blood drive, silent auction in support of Orlando

The Phoenix Mercury stands with Orlando, and this Saturday, June 18, at the team’s third annual PRIDE Night, will host a blood drive and raise money for the One Orlando Fund through a silent auction, merchandise sales, and at concession stands. The Mercury takes on the Dallas Wings at 7 p.m. at Talking Stick Resort Arena.

Phoenix Mercury raises $15,000 for American Cancer Society

The Phoenix Mercury’s annual “Rock the Pink” festivities, brought to you by IASIS Healthcare, raised more than $15,000 for the American Cancer Society during the Mercury-Minnesota Lynx game at US Airways Center. The money was raised through the team’s pre-game luminaria dedication drive, a silent auction of autographed pink Mercury items and a postgame live auction featuring players’ jerseys from the game. “Rock the Pink Night to me as a breast cancer survivor means life, this partnership with the Mercury enables us to save additional lives from breast cancer, and all cancer,” stated Colleen McKinstry, community manager for American Cancer Society, in a press release. “We love the Mercury and thank them for acknowledging our survivors as well as celebrating us and everything they do to help finish the fight against cancer.”

Mo’ne Davis named Mercury Woman of Inspiration

After taking the sports landscape by storm with her barrier-breaking performance in the 2014 Little League World Series, and winning the ESPY for “Best Breakthrough Athlete,” 14-year-old phenom Mo’ne Davis was named the Phoenix Mercury’s 2015 Woman of Inspiration. Ms. Davis will be honored in-person at US Airways Center on Sunday, August 16, at 4 p.m. when the Mercury takes on the Indiana Fever. As part of the WNBA’s Inspiring Women platform, the Mercury annually honors a deserving candidate and this year selected Ms. Davis after her inspirational run last August in which she became the first girl to earn a win and also the first to pitch a shutout in Little League World Series history, according to the release.
