Student golfers bring home Brophy-Xavier Invitational trophy

Xavier College Preparatory’s golf team won the inaugural Brophy-Xavier Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the newly renovated Grand Canyon University golf course in Phoenix. Xavier captured the title with a score of 595, outpacing Tucson Salpointe Catholic, 718, Scottsdale Desert Mountain, 720, Scottsdale Notre Dame Preparatory, 750, and Chandler Seton Catholic, 874, according to a press release.

Xavier-Brophy theater productions capture numerous awards, nominations

Xavier College Preparatory and Brophy College Preparatory captured 13 National Youth Arts Awards and 16 additional nominations for their 2015-16 joint productions of “Mary Poppins,” “You Can’t Take It With You,” “The Addams Family,” and “A Christmas Carol.”

Phoenix student-musicians receive high marks

The Brophy Wind Ensemble and the Brophy Symphonic Band performed at the Arizona Band & Orchestra Directors Association and both groups earned ratings of “excellent” which qualifies both groups to proceed to state next year. After an absence of about five years, 2015 marked the return of the Brophy College Prep concert groups to the ABODA festival system and the judges critique sheet gave the Broncos a challenge for the future by stating, “You’re on the right track—keep working,” according to a press release.

Brophy sponsors sexual assault program for senior class

On March 14, the Brophy College Preparatory senior class convened at Central High School for a day of reflection in response to a White House task force which studied sexual assault on college campuses. This task force released their first report in April of 2014 and its compelling results prompted the programming of this activity. A study of 27 different campuses across the U.S. revealed that one in five women will experience sexual assault while at college or university. After the release of the report, Brophy began to develop appropriate programming for its senior class who soon will be engaged in a university experience, according to a press release.

Brophy freshman to testify before U.S. Senate Committee

Diego Morris, freshman student at Brophy College Preparatory, has been called to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, at a hearing titled, “Connecting Patients to New and Potential Life Saving Treatments.” The hearing will focus on identifying possible barriers preventing patients from accessing new and potentially lifesaving therapies, often in the face of terminal or debilitating conditions.

Brophy student earns position at Regional Honors Band auditions

Congratulations to Brophy sophomore Frazier Abbajay, class of 2018, who earned an alto saxophone position at the Arizona Music Educators Association North Central Regional Honor Band auditions. Approximately 680 band students from 23 high schools auditioned this past weekend, according to a press release. Mr. Abbajay is one of six Broncos selected for the regional festival at Camelback High School on Feb. 19 culminating with a concert performance at 3 p.m. on Feb. 20.

Xavier, Brophy to put on spring comedy ‘You Can’t Take it with You’

The Xavier/Brophy Theatre will present four performances of “You Can’t Take It With You” this spring. Performance dates will be 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, Friday, March 4, and Saturday, March 5, and a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 5. The play, which premiered on Broadway in 1936, is the story of a Bohemian family and a few days of their exuberantly chaotic life, according to a press release. Recently revived on Broadway, it is a delightful three-act comedy by playwrights George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.

Brophy College Prep hosts record-setting fashion show, luncheon

More than 1,250 people attended the 32nd annual Brophy College Preparatory Fashion Show and Luncheon on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess Hotel. The fun-filled event themed “Journey by Faith” raised in excess of $700,000 with all proceeds directly benefiting the Brophy College Preparatory Financial Aid Fund. Approximately 28 percent of Brophy students receive financial assistance each year, according to a press release. The spectacular event, presented by the Brophy Mothers’ Guild, Saks Fifth Avenue and Biltmore Fashion Park featured the Fashions of the Zang Toi Spring 2016 collection, presented by designer Zang Toi himself.
