Brophy Broncos dominate in season debut against Sandra Day O’Connor

Brophy College Preparatory (1-0) kicked off its 2015 football season Friday night with a 45-0 thrashing of Sandra Day O’Connor High School (0-1). The Broncos were led by senior running back Ryan Velez, who rushed for 134 yards on 15 carries and scored three touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.com. “I expected a lot (in the first game) coming from the preparation that I did,” Velez said in an August 22 phone interview. “Plus, all of the guys working their tails off really put things together to make me have that big game.” Brophy head coach Scooter Molander said the Broncos wanted to have their run game working early in Friday’s game.
