Simpson: Scott O’Connor attacks are inaccurate, misleading

To start with, I had nothing to do with the hit piece on Mary Hamway.

In fact, I gave all money in the PAC to another, independent expenditure group last August because I wanted out of the PAC business.  I never consulted or met with the group the sponsored the hit piece on Mary.

As to my support of Republican ticket: I have made calls for the entire District 28 team at McCain headquarters, carried flyers door to door that support the entire team along with seven volunteers that Maria provided, all working for the three women on the LD28 team.

Although Scott O’Connor fashions himself the torchbearer of the Republican Party, I have not seen him carrying flyers or making phone calls for the LD28 team. And, now he is splitting the vote by urging folks not to vote for Maria Syms. It seems he has been looking to justify his attacks on Ms. Syms for some time.

I offered to hold a fundraiser for Mary, Kate and Maria. The only reason it has not occurred was due to scheduling conflicts. Does that sound like I do not want to help these other ladies?

Indeed, at the most recent LD28 monthly meeting, Maria stood alongside Mary and spoke eloquently about our district having a “dream team” of candidates. That does not seem like someone who is looking to “single shot.” To the contrary, at every meeting I have attended, Maria has offered her volunteers and urged supporters to vote for the two Republicans.

I have pledged money to Sen. McCain, County Attorney Montgomery, and several Republican city council members. I will match my Republican loyalty not only with money but with hours spent making phone calls at various headquarters. And, I walk the neighborhoods for candidates. (Most recently, for Mary and Maria, Representative Brophy-McGee and Senator McCain).

I resent the inaccurate and insulting remarks made by Scott O’Connor, but that seems to be his style.

I do support Maria Syms as do Governor Ducey, Senator Kyl, Senator McCain, Senator Flake, Congressman Schweikert, Attorney General Brnovich and County Attorney Montgomery, along with a host of other prominent Republicans. Her credentials and service to our community speak for volumes.

The Governor, Attorney General Brnovich and Mr. Montgomery support Maria because they are aware of the excellent work she has done on the state, county and local level. They hope to continue those relationships should she get elected to the Legislature.

So spare me the cheap remarks about endorsements. Mary will also represent us well as she has done in the town. Mary and I have not always agreed and have had issues, but, I have told her, the past is the past.  We move forward.

For me, life is too short, to hold grudges. No even against people like Scott who revel in muck and gossip at anyone’s expense.

Shame on him. He is diverting energy away from helping Republicans win.  Let’s move on.
