Artist Mitra Kamali combines her artistic and engineering backgrounds to share the unity of humanity in a new exhibit titled “The Alchemist” opening at Phoenix’s Olney Gallery.

Ms. Kamali worked as a petroleum engineer to support her family who due to political circumstances were forced to flee their homeland in Iran, according to a press release. These experiences may be the inspiration behind the artist’s themes of empathy and understanding in art, the release stated.

“The Alchemist” will be available May 27-June 23; it will be featured at the First Friday reception 6-9 p.m. on June 3, at the Olney Gallery at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 100 W. Roosevelt St. in Phoenix.
