The town code provides that the council shall select one of its members to serve as vice mayor at the first regular meeting in January of each year. On Jan. 14, the town council unanimously selected Mr. Sherf to serve for calendar year 2016.

Vice Mayor Sherf was appointed to town council to fill a vacant seat in fall of 2012 and was elected to council in August 2014, Independent records show. He credits his 40-year hospitality background as a reason he was chosen for a seat on the council.

He served as senior vice president of Hilton Hotels Corporation and has experience in hotel and resort development, finance, operations, capital planning and budgeting.

Vice Mayor Sherf also served as a member of the visioning committee in 2011 and was selected as one of three residents on the General Plan Committee.

Mr. Sherf lives with his wife, Betsy, and four sons in Paradise Valley.
