Steve Sarkis, who has served as Arcadia Biltmore Precinct Justice of the Peace since his election in 2008, has announced his retirement, effective July 31.

Mr. Sarkis is relocating to Colorado, according to a press release.

His replacement will be selected by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. The district encompasses east Phoenix, extending into parts of  south Scottsdale and Tempe, according to the press release. The precinct includes parts of four supervisorial districts.

Applications for a replacement are now being accepted, according to the release. The appointee must be, like Mr. Sarkis, a Democrat and live in the precinct.

The appointee will serve out the unexpired term and seek out a new term in the 2016 primary and general elections, according to the release.

Applicants should send their letters of interest along with a resume to the office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors at 301 W. Jefferson, 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003.
