The American Red Cross is hosting a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 18-19 at its Greater Phoenix Chapter office, 4747 N. 22nd St., Suite 100.
There is an urgent need for blood types O positive, O negative, A negative and B negative.
On average, the Red Cross must collect about 15,000 units of blood every day for patients at approximately 2,700 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country, said Trudy Thompson Rice, communications officer for the American Red Cross Arizona/New Mexico/El Paso Region.
American Red Cross Biomedical Services is the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the United States, collecting and processing about 40 percent of the blood supply nationwide.
