Mike Andrews, a long-time volunteer and Salvation Army board member in the Valley, has been presented The 2015 Sally Award by The Salvation Army.

The Sally Award honors an advisory board member for outstanding volunteer service to the Army. The award has been bestowed locally since 1963 and is the highest honor given by The Salvation Army’s Phoenix Advisory Board to one of its members, according to a press release.

Mr. Andrews has been an active volunteer at The Salvation Army for more than 20 years and is a former Phoenix Advisory Board Chair.  In addition to currently serving on Phoenix Advisory Board, Mr. Andrews chairs the Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner held at The Phoenix Convention Center.

The annual holiday programs have grown substantially under his leadership and helped thousands of struggling families, seniors, and children with an estimated 13,000 sit-down dinners and home delivered meals served. He also volunteers for the Red Kettle campaign and involves family and friends in bell-ringing.

The presentation was made at the annual volunteer appreciation event, by the Salvation Army’s Southwest Divisional Commander Lt. Colonel Joe Posillico and advisory board member Tom Leyda, 2014 recipient of The Sally Award.

“Mike’s contributions have advanced the mission and ministry of The Salvation Army in immeasurable ways,” stated Lt. Colonel Posillico in the release. “Under his leadership, our holiday meals have made many improvements including the addition of family photos, haircuts, games and live music. He has helped create a remarkable experience for both our guests and volunteers at these meals. We are blessed to have Mike as a dedicated supporter of the Army.”
