Xavier College Preparatory sophomore Kristiann Ferreira was named the 2015 Female High School Student of the Year by the Phoenix Indian Center.

A member of the San Carlos Apache Nation, she will be honored at the 2015 Arizona American Indian Excellence in Leadership Awards Banquet on Nov. 19 at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort, according to a press release.

The awards, previously known as the Native American Recognition Day Awards and an annual tradition since 1982, recognize outstanding individuals and businesses for their leadership in the American Indian Community.
