Xavier Mothers’ Guild host fashion show, raise funds for student scholarships

The Xavier College Preparatory Mothers’ Guild partnered with Dillard’s Scottsdale Fashion Square to present its annual Xavier Scholarship Fashion Show at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort on Saturday, March 12.

This year’s theme was “Celebrate Traditions,” and Xavier parents Tami Christifulli and Kristal McGrath chaired the event. The festivities began with a reception, followed by a luncheon and fashion show, according to a press release.

A capacity crowd of more than 1,300 guests filled the resort’s Grand Canyon Ballroom, applauding as professional models showcased fashions from Dillard’s spring collection and then as nearly 300 Xavier and Brophy College Preparatory seniors performed choreographed runway routines to a lively music montage.

Alumna parent Maria Pomeroy was honored with Xavier’s prestigious Founders Award for her dedication to the school and its mission to educate young women. All proceeds from the event will benefit the more than 40 percent of Xavier students who receive financial assistance, with a special tribute collection augmenting the Sister Nancy Perlick Scholarship Fund.

Xavier’s fashion show began in the 1950s as an alumnae event, became a Girls Athletic Association activity in the 1960s, later showcased the fashions that Xavier students created in their home economics classes, and ultimately evolved into the spring tradition that it is today, the release stated.
