Xavier, Brophy win big at National Youth Arts Awards

Xavier College Preparatory and Brophy College Preparatory captured nine National Youth Arts Awards and 17 additional nominations for their 2014-15 joint productions of “High School Musical,” “The Secret in the Wings,” “Footloose,” and “Our Town.”

Xavier seniors Julia Dooley, Madison Kec, Bailey Smith, Tatumn Zale, and May graduates Eliot Nichols and Jamie Tucker, brought home six of the nine awards, according to a press release.  The winners will be honored at an awards ceremony at Valley Youth Theatre on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

The following were included in the awards:


  • Outstanding Lead Actress – Musical: Jamie Tucker, High School Musical
  • Outstanding Lead Actress – Play: Julia Dooley, Our Town
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress – Musical: Eliot Nichols, Footloose
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress – Musical: Tatumn Zale, Footloose
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress – Play: Bailey Smith, Our Town
  • Outstanding Featured Actress – Musical: Madison Kec, High School Musical
  • Outstanding Ensemble: High School Musical
  • Outstanding Lighting Design: Jonah Nelson, The Secret in the Wings
  • Outstanding Direction: Maureen Dias, Our Town

  • Outstanding Lead Actor – PlayStokley Berg, Our Town

  • Outstanding Supporting Actor – Musical: Jack Rose, Footloose
  • Outstanding Supporting Actor – Musical: Hank Woods, Footloose
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress – Musical: Payton Bioletto, High School Musical
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress – Play: Mary Kate Martin, Our Town
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress – Play: Betsy Underwood, The Secret in the Wings
  • Outstanding Featured Actor – Musical: Jack Rose, High School Musical
  • Outstanding Ensemble: The Secret in the Wings
  • Outstanding Ensemble: Footloose
  • Outstanding Ensemble: Our Town
  • Outstanding Lighting Design: Jonah Nelson, High School Musical

Xavier alumna Sedona Urias-Ramonett won an Outstanding Lead Actress – Musical award for her performance in West Side Story at Valley Youth Theatre, and several students were also nominated for independent performances in community and youth theatre productions, the release stated.
