PVSchools recognizes World Suicide Prevention Day

On Sept. 10, PVSchools will recognize World Suicide Prevention Day. This year’s world theme is Preventing Suicide: Reaching Out and Saving Lives.

At the April 28 governing board meeting, the student body presidents declared that Sept. 10 be recognized as Suicide Prevention Day across the district, according to a press release.

They stated at the meeting, that if every school throughout PVSchools participated, we could help students, parents and teachers learn to recognize the signs of suicide and how to approach those in need of an intervention and prevent it from happening.

During the month of September, every high school teacher and staff member will receive online interactive training through Kognito. Our elementary and middle school principals will share this valuable resource with their teachers and staff, the release stated.

Additionally, on the back of the ID badges for all high students includes the phone number for Teen Lifeline for students who may need help – 602-248-8336 (TEEN). Teen Lifeline is a 24/7 resource and provides a safe, confidential, and crucial crisis service where teens help teens make healthy decisions together, the release stated.
