Veritas Preparatory Academy student, Bruce Burgener, has been awarded an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.

The nomination committee of Senator Jeff Flake granted Mr. Burgener a nomination, an academy requirement that enabled him to receive an offer of admission.

In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, receiving several National Greek and Latin Exam Awards, Mr. Burgener has participated in varsity cross country, soccer, and track throughout high school. He has served as a formal mentor to new students at Veritas and an informal math tutor to his peers.

In the community, Mr. Burgener mentored The Catholic Leadership for Life Program, as well as completing the three-year high school program offered by the Catholic Diocese of Phoenix.

Mr. Burgener resides in Paradise Valley, and is the son of long-time residents Mike and Pam Burgener. Mr. Burgener will begin basic training in June at West Point, before beginning his studies.
