PVSchools has announced to offer a Career and Technical Education course, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Services, that will be offered exclusively offered at North Canyon High School, beginning August 2016.
The Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Services program will provide educational and practical skills and an opportunity for students to learn more about the medical field and human anatomy, according to a press release.
It will also connect students to a number of different career opportunities such as athletic training, physical therapy, medicine, fitness, physiology of exercise, kinesiology, nutrition and other sports medicine related fields.
This multiyear program will be open to freshman (taking biology), sophomores, juniors and seniors. The first year classwork and practical hands-on application include:
- Prevention
- Treatment and Rehabilitation of Sports Injuries
- Sports Medicine Careers
The second year of the program expands on the areas covered in Sports Medicine 1-2 and includes:
- Nutrition
- Sports Psychology
- Rehabilitation
- Therapeutic Modalities
- Fitness/Conditioning/ Strength programs
As a student progresses through the Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Services program, there will be opportunities to work with the school’s athletic trainer and possible internships available.
This program is open to all high school students within the PVSchools boundaries, the release stated. Students that do not live within the boundaries may use open enrollment.
