Mountain Trail student wins district spelling bee

Jacob Rimmer, an eighth grade student at Mountain Trail Middle School, won the Paradise Valley Unified School District Spelling Bee that was held on Friday, Jan. 15.

The Spelling Bee lasted 15 rounds, and the winning word was platypus. Angelina Mann, a seventh-grade student at Explorer Middle School, was the runner-up, according to a press release.

In addition to Jacob and Angelina, Charlotte Anderson, Pinnacle Peak Elementary School; Varsha Reddy, Sandpiper Elementary School; Aditi Baghel, Fireside Elementary School; Vishnu Kunnummal, North Ranch Elementary School; Anthony Bangura, Vista Verde Middle School; Nicola Ferguson, Sunrise Middle School; and Kaitlyn Shelton, Shea Middle School, will represent PVSchools at the Regional II Spelling Bee that will be held on Feb. 18 at Arcadia High School.
