On March 14, the Brophy College Preparatory senior class convened at Central High School for a day of reflection in response to a White House task force which studied sexual assault on college campuses.

This task force released their first report in April of 2014 and its compelling results prompted the programming of this activity.

A study of 27 different campuses across the U.S. revealed that one in five women will experience sexual assault while at college or university. After the release of the report, Brophy began to develop appropriate programming for its senior class who soon will be engaged in a university experience, according to a press release.

“I believe we are in a unique position to help our students begin to change this culture now. We as a faculty know we are creating leaders and we believe that they can be catalysts for change,” stated Brophy Principal, Bob Ryan, in the release. “We are grateful for the use of Central High School as their facility was available during their spring break for our large group and small group breakout sessions.”

Brophy faculty and administrators collectively planned a day-long event titled, “Moral Courage: Taking a Stand at Sexual Assault.”

“While we know that one day cannot totally change the culture on the hundred college campuses our students will be attending, we believe it to be a good start for their individual formation and for the betterment of Brophy,” stated Mr. Ryan in the release.

Brophy College Preparatory is located 4701 N. Central Ave. in Phoenix.
