Officer Carla Anderson, a school resource officer at both Arrowhead Elementary and Indian Bend Elementary schools, recently was awarded with the Elementary School Resource Officer of the Year from the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education Department.

Officer Anderson established the Kindness Patrol at Arrowhead, 3820 E. Nisbet Road, which encourages students to take leadership roles seriously, according to a press release. The Kindness Patrol students spend time with younger students at recess helping them learn to play together and be kind.

At Indian Bend, 3633 E. Thunderbird Road, Officer Anderson supports the Kids At Hope belief system that all children are capable of success, no exceptions, according to the release. Officer Anderson has been instrumental in working with the school’s social worker to teach students that there is “hope” for their future.

Giving and helping others are part of Officer Anderson’s work and personal life. She recently returned from her second mission trip to Haiti to continue renovations on a school and playground, according to the release.
