All Saints’ students host event to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank

In recognition of April being National Community Service Month, pre-K students at All Saints’ Episcopal Day School hosted a lemonade stand April 24 to collect canned food donations for St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Students at the school were able to exchange canned-food donations for a glass of lemonade.

One of the pre-k teachers, Paula Marinos, started the lemonade stand when she began teaching at All Saints’. This year marks the eighth year for the event.

Students received 228 pounds of food and $86.72 in cash, which was all donated to the food bank.

All Saints’ makes community service an integral part of school life all year long. So far this school year the All Saints’ Tigers have:

• Organized and ran a supply drive to collect monetary and art supply donations to give to their sister school in Haiti;

• Volunteered for three hours at St. Mary’s Food Bank as part of its Sixth Grade Service Day;
• Collected stuffed animals and toys to be offered as prizes at the annual carnival for the children at UMOM New Day Center;

• Organized a blanket drive to collect gently-used blankets to be donated to those in need in the Valley;

• Currently under way is a major initiative — “Pennies for Peanut Butter” drive to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank.
