Excellence is not a pipe dream – at least for RKS Plumbing & Mechanical Inc., which is celebrating 25 years of business in June.

RKS Plumbing & Mechanical Inc. has made a name for itself in an established industry by identifying trends early, adapting with the times, and forging excellent client relationships, both on the commercial and industrial sides.

With a focus on setting high standards, maintaining high customer service satisfaction rankings, and providing a 24-hour emergency support staff, RKS Plumbing & Mechanical Inc. has raised the bar by having an overall focus on excellence.  They have grown from a handful of employees in 1990 to over 180 today, according to a press release.

RKS is now one of the largest commercial plumbing and mechanical contractors in the State.

The need in the commercial industry for more upfront planning with general contractors was an area of opportunity that RKS embraced early on.  More contractors are now at-risk and design-build, where the subcontractors share in the design of the project.

Another important progression in the industry is Computer Aided Drafting, also known as CAD, drawings, which can show possible clashes of systems before the building begins.  The commercial side is also requiring more certifications, safety requirements, and background checks – which RKS has accommodated, according to the release.

From conception, RKS delved into highly-specialized chemical and process piping for water and waste water treatment plants. RKS has worked in approximately 20 treatment plants in Arizona, according to the release.

“Constant training and planning is required in this fast-moving industry,” stated owner and founder Bob Sornsin, in the release.

Diversified divisions within RKS have allowed them to better serve their clients, according to the release.  The company has plumbing and HVAC divisions for commercial, industrial and service.  This has led them to work on projects of all sizes, including ground-up commercial projects, water treatment plants, tenant improvements, schools, hospitals, prisons, assisted living projects and high-rise student housing.

In an industry that thrives because its services are needed by everyone, Mr. Sornsin stated that it’s still important to understand and embrace new trends to appeal to the educated consumer.  RKS saw the growing need for Green Standards in the industry, and became a leader in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design by dedicating an entire team to introduce the latest renewable energy concepts and green built innovation to design, according to the release.

“With the national focus to save water and energy, there are constant technological advances in plumbing fixtures, water heaters, and heating and cooling units,” Mr. Sornsin stated. “As RKS celebrates its first quarter of a century of success, the committed focus on excellence is here to stay. This company has been and will always be about the customers and employees.  We are family.”
