On Monday, June 22, the Cigna Medical Group updated the old and iconic “handicapped” symbols at its Paradise Valley office parking lot spaces.

Cigna employees painted the new icons on seven parking spaces as part of Cigna’s nationwide project to visually redefine what people with disabilities an do, a central mission for Cigna, according to a press release.

The Accessibility Icon symbolizes the idea that all people with disabilities can be active and engaged in their environment, helping to redefine how individuals view people with disabilities, according to the release.

Cigna began this nationwide project in 2014 across select Cigna U.S. offices in Texas, Connecticut and Tennessee. For more about the new Accessible Icon visit:

Cigna was the first employer in Phoenix to update the old and iconic “handicapped” symbols in its North Phoenix office parking lot spaces earlier this year. Cigna will be updating parking spaces at other offices around the Valley.
