Abrazo Community Health Network employees raised $94,629 for the American Heart Association’s 2016 Phoenix Heart Walk to fund research to fight against heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death.

As a result, Abrazo Community Health Network was the top fundraising company for the 23rd annual Phoenix Heart Walk which attracted 19,000 participants on March 19. More than 580 Abrazo employees were registered for the walk, according to a press release.

“The participation from our Abrazo employees was amazing and inspiring,’’ stated Michele Finney, market chief executive officer for Abrazo Community Health Network, in the release. “Through collaboration and compassion, we were able to raise more than $94,000 for such a great cause.”

Abrazo Community Health Network is also the Phoenix Heart Walk’s year-round cause sponsor, the largest sponsorship of the 2016 Phoenix Heart Walk, and Abrazo Central Campus was the Miracle Mile sponsor.

“Thanks to overwhelming support from Abrazo Community Health Network, this year’s Phoenix Heart Walk was a huge success,” stated Cayci Oliver, executive director for the American Heart Association, in the release.  “We were able to surpass our $1.7 million goal and look forward to a continued partnership.”

Abrazo’s five hospital CEOs participated in the Phoenix Heart Walk Executive Challenge: Frank Molinaro, Abrazo Arrowhead Campus and Abrazo Arizona Heart Hospital; Dan Jones, Abrazo Central Campus; Crystal Hamilton, Abrazo Maryvale Campus; David Tupponce, Abrazo Scottsdale Campus; and Stan Holm, Abrazo West Campus. Matt Cowley, CEO of Phoenix Health Plan, and several hospital executives also participated.

Kat Rondeau, chief business development officer, was a member of the Executive Leadership Team that helped champion the 2016 Phoenix Heart Walk.

“Our mission in our personal lives as well as our work lives is to champion exceptional healthcare to those whose lives we touch. I would like to thank everyone who participated this year whether at the hospital events, at the Phoenix Heart Walk or supporting one of our teams,” Ms. Rondeau stated in the release.

Abrazo Community Health Network is also partnering with the American Heart Association to present free stroke checks throughout May at its six hospitals and two emergency centers.
