After a nationwide search, Town Manager Kevin Burke announced today that he has selected Peter Wingert to fill the Town of Paradise Valley’s top cop position.
“I believe Chief Wingert is the best fit for this department and this community. He brings an excellent track record of Community Policing and organizational skills to the table. Paradise Valley, like all police departments across the country, face a new reality in how law enforcement work is conducted,” stated Mr. Burke in a press release.
“Chief Wingert has the ability to pick apart a problem, identify the root causes, and build custom solutions. I think this will serve Paradise Valley well as we tackle ever new challenges internal to the department and external to the community.”
A tentative start date of June 29, 2015 has been set, according to the release.
Chief Wingert currently serves as Police Chief for Wickenburg. Prior to Wickenburg, he was the Undersheriff for the Flathead County, Montana Sheriff’s Office.
He has implemented numerous community oriented policing programs, which include “Wickenburg Five-0”, where officers interact with students in a proactive environment in neighborhood classrooms to build positive relationships and serve as role models to those students, neighborhood speed patrol and “Fill A Cruiser” food drive where community members fill a police vehicle with non-perishable food items. The food is donated to the local senior center.
Chief Wingert earned a bachelor’s of general studies from Northern Arizona State University, according to the release.
